GETTING TO KNOW ME
Frosty is an elegant, long and lanky Russian Donskoy. He loves every bit of affection he can receive and will snuggle in for hours and hours when given the opportunity. Expect him to snuggle near your face and on your chest. He is a solid black in color with a few straggly chin hairs and a characteristic wrinkly face. Not to be confused with a sphynx cat, Donskoy is quite the opposite. The hairless trait in Donskoy is derived from the mutation of a dominant gene. (In sphynx the hairless trait comes from a recessive gene. Although any cat can develop HCM, Donskoy are not predisposed to it like sphynx.)
Frosty is a gentle soul who can be bullied or pushed around by dominant cats. He does enjoy companionship, but humans and other animals must be gentle and soothing for him. This big boy loves a cubby hole to observe his world, is a playful child, LOVES to eat and be stroked.
Frosty (and Donskoy in general) does need a fair amount of grooming. Their bodies produce a good amount of waxy oil. Bathing about once a month along with a quick wipe down with a warm, wet cloth a couple of times a week will help to maintain their skin and keep furniture and fabric from staining. Be aware that they are sensitive to the sun and can experience sunburn. Nail beds and ears also quickly develop the waxy buildup and should be regularly cleaned as well. Body maintenance is more time-consuming than a cat with hair. Donskoy are NOT hypoallergenic.
Frosty would do well with another gentle cat companion and lots of time from his human. Being left alone for extended periods of time without human touch and attention is cruel for him. He should have lots of high and low places to explore, many snuggly blankets and a few hidey holes too.
Please do some reading on the Donskoy to better familiarize yourself with the breed. They are quite uncommon and rarely seen in rescue.
Frosty is schedule fed twice per day with a breakfast of Honest Kitchen and a mix of Nutro and ProPlan kibble for snacking. He has his choice of multiple litterboxes with unscented clumping litter that are scooped several times per day.
VETTING PROVIDED
To ensure ultimate health, Frosty is neutered, rabies and FVRCP vaccinated, been tested negative for FELV/FIV, has been dewormed and treated for parasites, and is microchipped.
