There’s so much to say about McKinnon. He is a sweet, young gentleman who tries so hard to understand and connect with people. He is a work in progress like all of us and is looking for a patient and committed family. In his foster home, he’s easily pet, nails trimmed and snuggled.

McKinnon is a wise sage who often sits and observes the world around him, taking it all in bit by bit. He is a very deep thinker. He loves lounging in his favorite donut bed, sleeping nestled between the pillows on the bed or on the cat tree, taking in some nature and fresh air. He is so curious about the other foster cats and follows them around looking for companionship. McKinnon is searching for a family with another friendly cat who can be his bestie and show him the ropes of family life and impart him with self-confidence or adopt a second cat that he’s sharing foster space with. He will start out very cautious, very shy and reserved until he is comfortable and confident in his new home. He’s worth the time and patience if you’re willing to invest in him. Kids would be more than this reserved boy can handle. A dog that would totally ignore him would likely be fine (he has never seen a dog).

Experience with shy cats is a must or at minimum a commitment to researching and putting into practice the tools and suggestions offered by Jackson Galaxy or Pam Bennett. Both are highly respected feline behaviorists with a large library of written and video training content on connecting with shy cats. There is much to look forward to once McKinnon trusts you. In his foster home he enjoys petting, snuggling and being read to and listening to music and watching movies.

He will need a single room to start out in, often referred to as “basecamp” with slow introductions and expansion of space at his pace. Coat care is easy with a greyhound comb as needed.

He currently enjoys a breakfast and dinner of Weruva and Tiki Cat canned foods and a stainless-steel water fountain. He is perfect with his litter box habits and a new home should have one litter box for each cat plus an extra. A spacious litter box filled with unscented clumping litter is advised.
