GETTING TO KNOW ME
Mazhor is a muscular, solid Russian Donskoy who loves his human attention and adoration. He is learning to live life as a normal cat who has been laid off from his job producing babies. Trust us, he loves his new life. True to his former self, he can at times be a bit pushy, but also will snuggle into a donut bed with other kitty companions and snooze away. Every day he settles in more. As expected, Mazhor cannot get enough of being up in a cat tree, playing with wand toys or burrowing under a soft, fuzzy throw.
Not to be confused with a sphynx cat, Donskoy is quite the opposite. The hairless trait in Donskoy is derived from the mutation of a dominant gene. (In sphynx the hairless trait comes from a recessive gene. Although any cat can develop HCM, Donskoy are not predisposed to it like sphynx.)
Mazhor (and Donskoy in general) does need a fair amount of grooming. Their bodies produce a good amount of waxy oil. Bathing about once a month along with a quick wipe down with a warm, wet cloth a couple of times a week will help to maintain their skin and keep furniture and fabric from staining. Be aware that they are sensitive to the sun and can experience sunburn. Nail beds and ears also quickly develop the waxy buildup and should be regularly cleaned as well. Body maintenance is more time-consuming than a cat with hair. Donskoy are NOT hypoallergenic.
Mazhor would do well with another confident cat and likely do better with female cats unless the male was easy going. He will be a bit pushy with a hesitant male cat. Being left alone for extended periods of time without human touch and attention is cruel for him. He should have lots of high and low places to explore, many snuggly blankets and plenty of good food.
Please do some reading on the Donskoy to better familiarize yourself with the breed. They are quite uncommon and rarely seen in rescue.
Mazhor is schedule fed twice per day with an Honest Kitchen breakfast and a mix of Nutro and ProPlan kibble for snacking. He has his choice of multiple litterboxes with unscented clumping litter that are scooped several times per day.
VETTING PROVIDED
To ensure ultimate health, Mazhor is neutered, rabies and FVRCP vaccinated, been tested negative for FELV/FIV, has been dewormed and treated for parasites, and is microchipped.
