Joe Strummer has a little of a rough exterior like his punk rocker namesake, but deep down, he is a total sweetheart looking for a home who will love him just for the amazing kitty he is!
Before joining PurrHarmony, Joe Strummer was a stud male at a cattery. It’s taken a little time for him to learn the house cat lifestyle. He is hesitant with strangers to start, but warms up quickly thanks to a tube of churu! Once you have his respect and you build trust, Joe will be your loyal companion. While not a lap cat, Joe loves to be near his people. He enjoys a home without many people coming and going and really likes just a few close people to be his best friends.
Joe Strummer will need a cat savvy home: He gives very clear signals when he is feeling over stimulated and can get swatty. This subsides the more he learns his new environment and trusts you. Joe sets some clear boundaries such as not wanting to be picked up or having his belly pet. He may give a hiss or a soft swat when he is uncomfortable.
Joe loves face rubs will purr if you give him some pets! He will let you pet him all down his back and tail – but he says no thank you to his legs, lower sides, and belly. Joe also adores playing with toys and can be seen carrying them in his mouth. Despite being 10 years old, he still loves to play!
Respectful, older teens would be okay, but a quieter household would be ideal for Joe Strummer. He would absolutely love to be an only pet and soak up all the attention! Possibly he could tolerate an easy going cat with a slow introduction, but he doesn’t really understand how to properly communicate with other cats. He is interested in other cats, but can be a little much and gives little warning before telling them off. A dog that respects or ignores cats would likely be okay with Joe.
His one eye is easy to maintain as far as Persians go with occasional wiping. He is tolerating brushing and combing down his back, sides, and under his chin. He is currently growing out a lion cut but has a fresh belly and sanitary shave. Joe Strummer may require sedated grooming for his safety and comfort.
Joe is currently eating Purina Pro Plan dry kibble and will eat a variety of dry or canned diets. He truly loves Churu treats and they aid in his trust of people and shaping behaviors. Since Joe does not readily allow picking up, we trained him to walk into a kennel for some churu! He has great bathroom habits and uses a large, open litter box with unscented, scoopable litter.
With the right family, Joe will continue to grow into an even more amazing cat and will revel in his golden years! He will need a single room to start out in, often referred to as “basecamp” with slow introductions and expansion of space at his pace.
