Galaxy is a quiet and peace-loving retired breeding queen. She is a purebred Russian Donskoy. Galaxy is the absolute perfect lap warmer, gentle lover and quiet companion. Currently living with a number of other flying monkey Donskoy, she would prefer her human to a crowd. She is not bullied or intimidated but those crazy play dates are in the past for her.
Her tortoiseshell patterns seem to change in the sun at times right before your eyes. Her large expressive eyes are so beautiful.
Galaxy is simply fine with another cat or two but should not go home with the intent that she is an added playmate. She is an added snuggle bunny and bed warmer! Being left alone for extended periods of time without human touch and attention is cruel for her. She should have lots of high and low places to explore, many snuggly blankets and plenty of good food.
Not to be confused with a sphynx cat, Donskoy is quite the opposite. The hairless trait in Donskoy is derived from the mutation of a dominant gene. (In sphynx the hairless trait comes from a recessive gene. Although any cat can develop HCM, Donskoy are not predisposed to it like sphynx.)
Galaxy (and Donskoy in general) does need a fair amount of grooming. Their bodies produce a good amount of waxy oil. Bathing about once a month along with a quick wipe down with a warm, wet cloth a couple of times a week will help maintain their skin and keep furniture and fabric from staining. Be aware that they are sensitive to the sun and can experience sunburn. Nail beds and ears also quickly develop the waxy buildup and should be regularly cleaned as well. Body maintenance is more time-consuming than a cat with hair. Donskoy are NOT hypoallergenic.
Something specific to note about Galaxy is that she has no teeth remaining. As a former mom, so much of her existence went into providing nourishment and care for babies that it likely took its toll on her body. But no concerns with that-cats in general and Galaxy specifically are great about having no teeth. She eats just fine and prefers kibble over everything else. (Bonus, no need for a dental ever again!)
Please do some reading on the Donskoy to better familiarize yourself with the breed. They are quite uncommon and rarely seen in rescue.
