GETTING TO KNOW ME
You can’t help but fawn over Bjorn with his piercing blue eyes staring into yours, plush hair to rub your face against and body that melts with yours! He so enjoys being talked with, pet, a little roll with catnip, and fresh air from a cat tree placed by a window and lets not forget his love of a good meal. Selkirks tend to be more interactive than active. Just be patient with him and love him unconditionally! He’s a super easy going boy who bring a lot of zen to life.
Bjorn might start out cautious, but it won’t take him long because he so wants to be with people. He’d be fine with respectful kids 10+ years, an easy-going sweet cat and maybe a dog that would totally ignore him (he’s never seen a dog). He’d be fine as an only pet in the home only if his family was home most of the time. He would not flourish being an only cat who was alone 40-50 hours a week.
Selkirk Rex are the original “bad hair day” kitties because the random little ringlets that go every which way, individual curls, and luxurious dreadlocks. This coat demands to be felt and played with! A hair pick can be helpful in separating large clumps of curls or a wide tooth metal comb to care for the Selkirk Rex coat. Simply use your fingers in a gentle scratching motion to fluff up the curls and you’ll be able to keep the coat looking its best while making your cat very happy. These cats do not mat easily, but combing weekly is recommended to remove dead hair and ensure that mats do not form.
Bjorn is perfect with his litter box and currently uses a large open top litter box(he is a big boy and needs his bathroom spacious) with unscented scoopable litter. He is fed Honest Kitchen dehydrated food for breakfast and dinner and eats off a flat bowl to accommodate his face and whiskers. He’s currently enjoying water out of stainless water fountain and a ceramic bowl.
Starting out in a room as basecamp with introductions and access to the home should be at a speed acceptable and safe for Bjorn and other pets in the home.
