GETTING TO KNOW ME
Petunia is a fairy-like little girl who loves to flirt and zoom around gleefully without a care in the world. She has a soft cottony wavy coat with occasional curls and is oh so soft. She enjoys playing with toys, throwing a good fight with a catnip toy, and shooting up a cat tree.
Petunia is not a demanding kitty, but the more time and effort you put into her, the more you’ll get back! Being carried around isn’t her thing because she’s more wiggly and has things to do and sun beams to chase. She enjoys being pet and having her head scratched if she’s done playing and being goofy. Until comfortable, she prefers to observe you from a safe distance, but she is easily swayed with wand toys and catnip.
Petunia would do great with another happy go lucky cat like herself and children 10+ that are respectful. She has never seen a dog but would likely be fine with one that would ignore her. She’d be fine as an only pet in the home only if the family was home most of the time. She would not flourish being an only cat who was alone 40-50 hours a week.
Selkirk Rex are the original “bad hair day” kitties because the random little ringlets that go every which way, individual curls, and luxurious dreadlocks. This coat demands to be felt and played with! A hair pick can be helpful in separating large clumps of curls or a wide tooth metal comb to care for the Selkirk Rex coat. Simply use your fingers in a gentle scratching motion to fluff up the curls and you’ll be able to keep the coat looking its best while making your cat very happy. These cats do not mat easily, but combing weekly is recommended to remove dead hair and ensure that mats do not form.
Petunia is perfect with the litter box and currently uses a large open top litter box with unscented scoopable litter. She is fed Honest Kitchen rehydrated food for breakfast and dinner and eats off a flat bowl to accommodate her flat face and whiskers. She’s currently enjoying water out of stainless water fountain.
Starting out in a room as basecamp with introductions and access to the home should be at a speed acceptable and safe for Petunia and other pets in the home.
