GETTING TO KNOW ME
Phoenix is a sweet and gentle purebred Russian Donskoy. All he wants is love. He is not dominant or a rabble rouser. He is willing to share that warm lap, snuggle with his kitty friends, his human friends and spread the peace.
Phoenix is a forgiving guy whether it be because he got a bath, had to take some meds or share a food bowl, he is quick to be back near your side. Like his rescue counterparts, he loves to play and chase and fly through the air with joy and abandonment.
Not to be confused with a sphynx cat, a Donskoy is quite the opposite. The hairless trait in Donskoy is derived from the mutation of a dominant gene. (In sphynx the hairless trait comes from a recessive gene. Although any cat can develop HCM, Donskoy are not predisposed to it like sphynx.)
Phoenix does well with other cats and would love to have another playful, laid-back feline companion in his next home. An overly dominant cat could get the better of him. Although he can stand up for himself, he would rather be a lover not a fighter.
Phoenix (and Donskoy in general) does need a fair amount of grooming. Their bodies produce a good amount of waxy oil. Bathing about once a month along with a quick wipe down with a warm, wet cloth a couple of times a week will help to maintain their skin and keep furniture and fabric from staining. Be aware that they are sensitive to the sun and can experience sunburn. Nail beds and ears also quickly develop the waxy buildup and should be regularly cleaned as well. Body maintenance is more time-consuming than a cat with hair. Donskoy are NOT hypoallergenic.
Phoenix would be fine with respectful children who understand how to gently handle pets. Being left alone for extended periods of time without human touch and attention is cruel for him. He should have lots of high and low places to explore, many snuggly blankets and a few hidey holes too.
Please do some reading on the Donskoy to better familiarize yourself with the breed. They are quite uncommon and rarely seen in rescue.
Phoenix is schedule fed twice per day with a breakfast of Honest Kitchen and a mix of Nutro and ProPlan kibble for snacking. He has his choice of multiple litterboxes with unscented clumping litter that are scooped several times per day.
VETTING PROVIDED
To ensure ultimate health, Phoenix is neutered, rabies and FVRCP vaccinated, been tested negative for FELV/FIV, has been dewormed and treated for parasites, and is microchipped.
