Geena
Every once in a while, we have a true Cinderella story. We have a cat who had a story different from the others and had to beat the odds. Meet GEENA — a PurrHarmony Cinderella story.
Geena is a spayed, red and white tabby Persian who is living her best life right now, just waiting for her family to celebrate forever! Geena arrived in January with the help of the CFA Breed Assistance Program. At the time she was a bit bedraggled. Her coat was sparce and her body was home to parasites. She was a bit reclusive and quiet and happy with warm, soft bedding and good food. It was no wonder as we learned she was pregnant. Although perhaps it was starting a bit late, we could provide her with wonderful prenatal care and vetting. That included taking x-rays to determine how many babies were with her and when they might arrive. What was revealed was shocking and concerning when we learned that Geena had a diaphragmatic hernia. That hernia had allowed her liver to migrate through her abdomen and wrap around her heart. That knowledge set many vetting protocols into action and put PurrHarmony in a place of making some very tough decisions. This was a very high-risk situation for not only the babies but Geena too. We trusted our vets, sought out the opinions of credible specialists, ran many diagnostics and decided the best thing we could do, was to let nature take over and hold her paw along the way. Geena’s fairy godmother must have held her paw too. In February she safely delivered her litter and took good care of them. Once they had been adopted, it was now Geena’s turn. Would steady and skilled hands of specialists be able to unwrap her heart, put her liver back where it belonged and close that hole? THEY SURE DID! And now it’s time for her Cinderella story to move along to forever. It’s been a really long road and not without some highs and very low, lows. We had to take calculated risks along the way, and they have all paid off.
Now that her heart is allowed to expand properly, we know it has grown. Geena is sweet, easy going and welcomes people and other animals alike. She no longer is reclusive. She feels great! Along the way, she has found a BEST FRIEND in Olive, a beautiful Selkirk Rex who is also available for adoption.
Geena is 2-3 years old, has her claws and is maybe 7.5 pounds. All that remains of her medical issues is a surgical scar and shaved belly. Besides her special surgical procedures, she is spayed, vaccinated against rabies and distemper, has had full blood panels and urine evaluations, is FELV/FIV negative, is wormed, treated for mites and fleas and is microchipped. And she has a huge (and very normal) heart.
Geena does well with friendly cats, would likely be fine with respectful dogs and children. She would love for you to consider adopting her with dear friend Olive, the Selkirk Rex. It is not mandatory but how nice is it, to get a ready-made pair of friends?
